Gohar Educational and Welfare Foundation (GEWF) is a USA-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming lives through education. Who We Are
Founded by a group of passionate expatriates, GEWF was born out of a shared commitment to giving back to our communities and helping children reach their full potential.
Our founders, who have deep roots in Pakistan, have witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by underprivileged children who lack access to basic educational resources. With this in mind, GEWF was established to address these disparities and to make a lasting impact on the lives of those most in need.
What We Do
At GEWF, we believe education is critical to breaking the cycle of poverty and creating lasting socio-economic change. Our approach centers on adopting and supporting schools in partnership with local education departments. We provide comprehensive financial and operational support to ensure these schools can offer their students the highest standards of education.
Our work is primarily focused in Pakistan, where we are actively involved in adopting schools and providing the necessary resources to keep them running smoothly. From teacher training and curriculum development to providing books, uniforms, and meals, we are dedicated to fostering a space where children can excel both academically and personally.
A Significant Step Towards Achieving its Mission
The Gohar Trust has adopted two schools in Karachi through the Sindh Government’s “Adopt a School” program. These schools, Bahadur Yar Jang (BYJ) Primary and BYJ Secondary School, cater to approximately 600 students ranging from Kindergarten to Tenth grade. The adoption of these schools is a clear indication of the Trust’s commitment to making a tangible impact on the educational landscape in Pakistan.The BYJ schools have been identified for their potential to transform into model institutions of learning. The Trust has committed several million dollars to enhance the quality of education in these adopted schools.
This investment is directed towards five main areas:
• Organization: Establishing efficient administrative systems to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
• Soft Tools for Teacher Skill Enhancement: Providing training and development programs for teachers to enhance their teaching skills and methodologies.
• Infrastructure Improvements: Upgrading school facilities to create a better learning environment.
• Support Services: Ensuring the provision of essential services such as security, health, cleanliness, and drinking water.
• Community Involvement: The Trust believes in the power of community involvement in achieving its mission. Engaging with parents, local authorities, and other stakeholders is essential for the success of its initiatives. By fostering a sense of community and collaboration, the Trust aims to create a sustainable and inclusive educational environment.
